Before joining KPMG, Vinod was a senior policy adviser with the European Commission (EC) in Brussels in 2004–2009. In this role, he was responsible for developing tax policy in the field of international direct taxation relating to tax incentives and fiscal state aid, which involved evaluating the corporate tax laws of all 27 EU member states. In 1998–2004, Vinod was a senior policy adviser on international and EU taxation with the Dutch Ministry of Finance.
