Roula is a senior tax partner with over 20 years’ experience in tax advisory services and specializes in corporate tax. She has advised on a wide range of corporate tax matters with particular emphasis on the opportunities and issues flowing from corporate tax planning and consulting, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, management and leveraged buy-outs, disposal of businesses, structuring of new ventures, capital gains tax, innovative incentive scheme assistance, due diligence, liaising with revenue authorities on behalf of clients, including responding to queries and preparing objections and appeals, debt securitisations, bond buy-backs and FEC reviews. Roula has recently been involved as the advisor of various high profile transactions including the sale by Edcon of its credit card business to ABSA (R10 billion) (nominated as Africa Deal of the Year) and the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) BEE deal (R15 billion). Roula has also presented and published at various business forums and universities over the years with the focus being on new developments and tax controversy and dispute resolution.

Tax audits and disputes – A responsible tax approach to tax disruption

KPMG International’s Global Tax and Benchmarking survey conducted across 35 countries and 270 respondents suggests that behaviour is changing among tax authorities worldwide. Feedback indicates that audit activity has increased across the board with international tax and transfer pricing in particular leading the way.
